Shock absorbers noise?

I noticed recently that front of the car makes some noise when i get over a bump, or a bumpy road.. it seems like it is coming from the shock absorber.. my car is 2001 Chevy Impala.. are the shock aborbers worn out? or i can just apply DW 40 and it will be fine?

and if i have to change it (the front two)... how much around it will cost me?

thanks|||try lean or push down the front right and front left side of your car..

if it bounces back as like a spring your shock absorbers are fine..

the noise could be something from your car..maybe a worn engine support|||Most likely be a worn bush around the shock absorber area, take a look if somethings worn. Push the car down at the front and release to see if it dampens the spring back while on recovering its position, try comparing either side, also look for leaking etc around the base of the shock which will be a sure sign of malfunction|||Most likely you have a bad upper McPherson strut mount where it mounts to the sheet metal body tower mounts under the hood. There%26#039;s a bearing or isolator bushing that should be replaced whenever you have new strut shock absorbers installed. You%26#039;ll have to have two new shocks installed and new strut mount bushings. You can%26#039;t really test for the bad bushing easily unless your strong enough to pick up on the tire with the car on a lift and see the bad bushing move. You might also have a bad torsion bar bushing at one of the wheels.

See if you have a Pep Boys auto store in your area. They sell the new strut shocks and install them. Make positively sure you have them write on the shop order to install NEW upper bushing/ bearing mounts!! You may have to pay for a front end alignment as well and the total cost will be almost $500.|||Bushing wear/ replace i%26#039;d use brake masters if available... they insall shocks reasonble price you may have struts in front?depends on car and year.. another shop is Midas reliable!|||yes either the shock absorber or the control arm bushings
