How do you change the shock absorbers on a chevy suburban?

Now you did not say what year, but you DO NOT NEED A SPRING COMPRESSOR!! That is silly. You do not have McPherson Struts.

Your rear shocks are bolted to the axle and the body. If you look it is easy to figure out.

Depending upon 4x4 or 4x2 the front shocks are again bolted to the axle and a bracket just outside the frame.

If you are fairly thin, you can do this without jacking it up. On the front ones, it is easier to jack it up and PUT IT ON STANDS, and remove the front wheels. Just easier to reach. Put the stands under the front control arms so that the shocks are not acting as spring stops.

Good Luck|||Drive it down to the mechanic and say ...

%26quot;Hey can you change my shock absorbers?%26quot;

Lighten up...its a joke !|||If you are asking that here, you might want to take it to a shop. You need special tools like a spring compressor.

It%26#039;s not terribly hard, but you do need some good tools,

a big jack, jack stands etc.|||You%26#039;ll need a spring compressor which poses a mild potential of killing you if used improperly if the strut flies out of the spring (I head a story where a mechanic had the strut go through his jaw and killed him).

You also will have to take the beast to a mechanic to get it aligned after you install the shocks.

Don%26#039;t let them charge you more than an hour labor per side.
