You should not tighten any bolts on the new or replacement shock UNTIL the car is back down on the ground. With the full weight on the new shock, then you tighten everything to torque specifications;

Did you do this? or not?

Do you hear the noise when you are driving, then turning right?? or when the car is still, and you just turn the wheel? It does make a difference to the correct answer. My answer assumed the car was not moving.

If the car is moving, then clunk, clunk, clunk, is the LEFT drive shaft's CV Constant velocity joint. When you turn right, more weight is thrown on the left side of the car. The Left drive shaft with CV joint is the shorter, less expensive shaft. but, you have to drain the gearbox, remove the shaft, remove the tie rod end bolt, remove the shaft end nut (torque-wrench needed to 250 ft lbs when replacing), add a new oil seal, replace new shaft, refit shaft end bolt, torque to 250 ft.lbs., tighten tie rod 17mm nut, add gear oil.

I have done this 5 times to several Peugeots. PHOTO of the similar 205, more difficult LONG drive shaft...

Rebuilding the old CV joint is possible, but a lot of extra work. Nobody but ME does that... certainly not your local mechanic.

Thank you somebody. Why did it take one month to get resolved? With 4 good answers, and one dillwad who gives everything a thumbs down.

sounds like a cv joint or if its just the one clunk it might be the spring not seated correctly in the cup.
it sounds like you have asembled it back together wrong, check the strut top bearing or cup its sits in. if the noise is there when the car is moving then it sounds like the cv joint.
Like Trevor said. I rebuild struts as well. It could be the spring has snapped on rebuild.

Get it checked out by someone as 'distance diagnosis' is often wrong.
