How long do car tyers last?

I have only done 10,000 miles on my car, they are bridgestone tyres. Took the car to get it's first service and they told me the two front tyers need changed. They also found the need to change the rear shock absorbers, the car is less that a year old !!! Is this normal ???

10.000 miles is a bit on the low side but still feasible.

There are a few factors that can affect tyre wear

Correct pressures

steering alignment (tracking)

Suspension wear. ( you mentioned shock absorbers)

wear on steering components

Individual driving style.

your choice of tyre

Bridgestone tyres are quite a reputable brand so it is unlikely that there would be a fault in BOTH tyres (it could happen though)

More likely is that the garage might have been a bit keen to sell you the tyres and sold you them earlier than they should have

It is best to monitor the wear yourself . Here is what to look for

How many miles did the car have when you bought it. ALSO, if you're a lead foot (ounds like you are) and if the cars rear wheel drive then whenever you push the gas all the wieght is distributed to the back fo the car, thus stressing you shocks. Still, it must have SLAMMED a speed bumb or something for the front tires to need changing after a year of driving. Your tires shoud probably ast 40-50k with normal driving. If you take turns fast then you could be %26quot;understeering%26quot; and tearing up your front tires. That mixed with lead foot = bad driving.

It's one of three things.

1-It hit some mjor bumbs, knocked the alignment off (which would then lead to your front tires being missaligned and wearing much faster) and killed the rear suspension.

2-You're a bad driver and need to stop slamming the gas and taking turns too fast.

3- The previous owner F'd some crap up and sold you a car that had beed driven hard.
On a new car with good quality tyres - which Bridgestone are - you should get way over 10k on the tyres. Also the rear shocks should definately not need replacing after 10k and a year! You should be able to claim the rear shocks against your warranty and probably also the tyres as this is very bad wear for an oem tyre.

Just out of interest, earlier this year we handed back to the Leasing Company after 3 years, a Citroen Xsara Hatchback 1.4hdi. This was used as a pool car and half a dozrn different drivers used it. It came to us brand new with Michelin primacy tyres on it - we handed it back with 76 thousand miles on the clock and with the 4 original tyres still on it and still with a smidgen over the legal minimum tread on them! Now that is what i call good tyre wear! (and all the original shocks in place and working well).
I assume the car is not a year old from new, just from when you bought it otherwise there is a new car warranty and you should take it back to the dealer. If it is the other the tires could be bad from either bad front end alignment, and or a bad cord or defect. Depending on the year, mileage, driving habits, and make of the car, the rear shocks could very well have needed replacement.
Tyres wear more if you drive more with a bit more 'vigor' than most, bridgestones ive had before have lasted between 20000 and 30000 miles. As for the shocks, its unusual for them to go after a year if you bought the car new. Shocks go quicker if you have adjusted any of the geometry such as ride height especially.
it is not normal, but certianly possible.

if you are accelerating heavily, spinning tires, pushing hard through corners, if your tires are under inflated, your car is out of align or your struts are bad, this could happen. most of the things that cause this are driver induced. slow down.

i've never had a set last less than 28K and most 40-65K
The road surfaces are so horrible and uncared for these days that tyres don't last half as long as they're supposed to. Keep them inflated regularly (I really should do that myself, LOL) and try not to spin them (I'm such a hypocrite, lmao). Good that you're a careful driver, I'm kind of impatient.
well if the shocks are gone then no wonder the tyres need changing the shocks are not absorbing the bumps, and turns in the road

hope this helps

p.s get those shocks changed

it could also be your tracking that is out (your wheels are not aligned correctly)
This is not normal. Do you keep your tires properly inflated? Do you drive on abnormally rough surfaces? I would suggest getting a second and maybe a third opinion. Have them explain why they think you need the work done.
It really depends on the condition of your car, the condition of the roads where you live, etc. But 40,000 is a good average.
well mine is 5 years old done 22k, Only changed 1 tyre so far on front.. ,,, At last MOT had to have rear bushes renewed Mine is a Ford What is yours.
Nope. Are you accelerating from a standing start and spinning your wheels?

My tyres last at least 25k.

How calmly do you drive your car?
Dont worry about DAnna S being bitchy. Her education isnt that good as we are all talking about TYRES. What on earth is she on about? Where does TIERS come into the discussion?
Forever if you dont go anywhere!
i think you tell them you wanna go to another gararge there crooks
how long did your education last? obviously not very long because you can't spell TIER
